OfflineThe British Institute Of Innkeepers Award Body (BIIAB) is the awarding body of the British Institute of Innkeepers which in turn is the professional organisation for those involved in the UK licensed retail industry offering distance learning courses. The BIIAB are responsible for awarding a large number of industry training qualifications ranging from the Professional Barpersons Qualification through to the Customer Service and Drinks Certificate.
The BIIAB training courses are delivered through a large network of independent training centres throughout the UK. Each of these training centres are accredited by the BIIAB and there are well .
One of the most important qualifications awarded by the BIIAB is the National Certificate For Personal Licence Holders (NCPLH distance learning available). The Licensing Reform Act of 2003 specifies that anyone who authorises the sale of alcohol to members of the public must hold a recognised licensing qualification like the NCPLH. Without a personal licence a person cannot legally sell alcohol from premises within the UK.
NCPLH Distance Learning
The NCPLH course takes a day to complete, but there is an examination to be passed at the end. Only those who pass the NCPLH examination will be eligible to apply to be licensed to sell alcohol to the public. The course is fairly rigorous and covers the law relating to the retail of alcohol and the prospective licensee's legal responsibilities. This area of the course covers not only regulations in regard to the licensed premises and duties of the licence holder but also the protection of children and the specific exclusions from the sale of alcoholic drinks (distance learning option available).
Another important area of the NCPLH training course is the highlighting of unlicensed activities and the powers that the police possess in being able to close licensed premises. A full knowledge of the laws and regulations are vital to anyone seeking a position as a licensee.
When a person has successfully completed a NCPLH training course they will be able to apply for a personal licence though there are other BIIAB qualifications that the licence holder may want, or is required, to achieve. For example, the training and licensing of door staff is now mandatory and the BIIAB courses in this sector have been developed in conjunction with the police and government authorities.
BIIAB Distance Learning Opportunities
BIIAB training is essential in today's licensing trade. The sale of alcohol is a hugely responsible undertaking and it is crucial that before anyone enters the licensed industry they fully are fully knowledgeable of the laws surrounding the sale of alcoholic drink. BIIBA training can help provide that knowledge and expertise.
